Do you know that the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 has came in force? Together with this act, the following regulations were also been attached:

a) Personal Data Protection Regulations 2013

b) Personal Data Protection (Class of Data Users) Order 2013

c) Personal Data Protection (Registration of Data User) Regulations 2013 and

d) Personal Data Protection (Fees) Regulations 2013

The move comes almost one year after the act was scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2013, but delayed due to legal formalities. The Act makes it a criminal offence for data users (organisations, entities, employers) to reveal personal data to third parties without the data owner’s consent or notification. Compliance failure will make the data user liable to a fine up to RM300,000 or jail term, or both, upon conviction.
